Managing Emotions

Most times, we let our emotions take over our lives every day and this needs to change. We mistakenly allow our emotions to control ourselves, when in reality; we need to learn how to control our emotions.

By not learning how to handle your emotional outbursts, you risk ruining different relationships you will have over the course of your lifetime. Personal friendships, intimate relationships and office interactions all revolve around the management of emotions.

As with many other aspects of life, emotions are best met with a sense of moderation and logical perspective. This is not to say that we should stop ourselves from falling in love or jumping for joy after great news. It is negative emotions that must be handled with extreme care.

Negative emotions, like rage, anxiety, sadness, anger, pride, envy or bitterness, tend to spiral out of control, especially immediately after they've been triggered. In time, these sorts of emotions can grow, slowly conditioning the mind to function on detrimental feelings and dominating everyday life.

For us to avoid operating on the wrong types of feelings and master our emotions under the harsh circumstances, we must:
  • Not react immediately
  • Ask God for help and guidance
  • Find a healthy outlet to let off
  • See the bigger picture
  • Replace your thoughts with happy positive thoughts
  • Forgive your emotional triggers
  • Do Something you love
Emotions can rule your life – or you can control them. It’s worthwhile learning to control them, just so you can respond rationally in tough situations, and not allow your thoughts to drag you down into despair and depression. It’s a much lovelier life when you’re in control.
