Scars Uncovered : Phateemah A
My scar runs from my upper thigh to my lower thigh on one part and just on the lower part on the second part ( all on 1 leg). My scar is evidence that I had to undergo 2 surgeries before I turned age 3.
For a very very long time, I covered it, always wore clothes where it remained perfectly hidden. I'd always cover myself up and never would wear anything that would show my scars. Now I feel the opposite I am comfortable with my body and can't even be bothered anymore about marks on my leg. It is my 'mark of courage' I hope other women with scars can walk tall, proud that they survived whatever it was that left it's mark on their body.
I now know that my scars are there for a reason. They're a tool for empowerment. They're a reminder that everyday, I'm winning this private war against osteoarthritis.
I am more than my scars; my self worth is not based on how perfect I think I need to be. Some days I don't even notice the scars (until of cos someone asks 'what happened to your leg?') I'm too preoccupied with achieving all of my goals.
You may have had life challenges that have left physical and-or emotional scarring and It can really hurt if all people see is the scarred you.
You are not your scars, you are not your past, you are not your 'failures', and you are so much more than this.

I am one of many who believe that scars heals (both physical and mental) and that process of healing most of the time starts with understanding that "you are not your scars."
ReplyDeleteSharing this has inspired me to reignite the ability to separate my negative past experiences and regrets from my present realities and also holding on to the one with healing powers to take perfect care of my body and soul.
